The Inverse Opera takes pride in offering a wide variety of performance experiences, from formal productions in theatrical settings to dressed-down casual affairs in bars.
Here’s a run-down of what to expect from a TIO show:
Cabarets: Inverse Cabarets are 100% casual and are produced in cooperation with area bars, coffee shops and cafes – basically anywhere you plug in a keyboard and jam. These performances offer a chance for singers and audiences to mingle, enjoy a meal or beverage together, and essentially have a singing party. Each cabaret is a set of loosely-themed songs performed by a range of singers, and often feature a huge mix of styles (opera, musical theatre, pop, folk, etc.) We are committed to charging no admission for our cabarets.
Concerts: Inverse Concerts are performed in venues designed for performance (theatre, recital halls, churches, etc.) and are more formally produced than Cabarets – but never stuffy! Concert programming may be a full long-form composition (like a song cycle or oratorio) or a collection of related material. Concerts are ticketed events.
Productions: Inverse Productions are fully-produced operas, musicals or otherwise theatrical performances in a space designed for sets, lights and live action. Productions are an excuse to dress up for a “night on the town”. Inverse presented its first major production to great acclaim in January of 2012 with “Project 5” in collaboration with Seattle Dance Project and ACT Theatre. Productions are ticketed events.
Private Events: Inverse is happy to sing anywhere where people are willing to listen! If you’d like to listen to us and host us at a holiday, business or “just for fun” party please let us know!
